Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. Why? Because it is the magical time of year when tradition dictates that you spend time putting life in perspective. This is typically done by reflecting on the things, people, and experiences that produce feelings of gratitude and appreciation.
When so much time is spent each year on acquiring more or worrying about not having enough, it is refreshing to have a day set aside as a reminder to take stock and count your blessings. Have you found yourself feeling a little down lately? Are your thoughts centered from a place of lack? Are you feeling the beginning of winter blues? If so, there is no time like the present to begin your "Giving Thanks List".
Letting the feelings associated with gratitude surface is one of the best ways to pivot from any negative emotions. Kind of like the "think happy thoughts" exercise. Think of the people who make you smile, the people who you are blessed to have in your life, the work that you thoroughly enjoy and someone is foolish enough to be paying you to do, and last and surely not least, the fact that you are able to be sitting here reading this article. Wow! I bet I made you smile. See, it wasn't difficult and it works rather quickly! The saying, "the joy is in the giving, not in the receiving" is never truer than at Thanksgiving.
